Who are you choosing to be right now?
My wife Michelle has coined a new term in our household: "Life is a Team Call!"
Allow me to explain.
As part of our home business, we have a team call every Monday night. I typically co-host the call with my business partner Peter.
The key element of being out on the call each week is that I am looked upon as a leader. So I'm very conscious of what I say and how I say it because I realize I'm setting an example for the other people listening to the call.
A couple of weeks ago, after a particularly inspiring rant of mine (which was quite brilliant as I recall), Michelle said to me afterwards "Why can't you be like that all the time? You were amazing. Who was that man and how do we get him to show up more often?"
So she took a sheet of paper and in very large block lettering she wrote "Life Is A Team Call" and posted it onto the fridge door.
That note now serves as my reminder. Leadership is a choice.
At any point of time, someone is always watching and you are always setting an example. Even if the example is just for you.
And if you choose to turn it on and off, as I've been at times prone to do, then your results will reflect that lack of consistency.
My business partner Peter often says you are either a leader or a victim. You can't be both -- at any point of time you are either one or the other. So ... which are you being right now?
Day by day, moment by moment, we get the opportunity to choose who we are going to be ... right now. The more consistently we choose well, the better we feel, the better we are, and the better we do.
Whenever I walk past that fridge, if I'm in any way off track, I read that message. "Life is a Team Call". And then I choose to be the leader of me.
